Overview of role

Walkers is offering a unique opportunity to an ambitious and technically strong lawyer to join its market leading and dynamic Global Corporate team, with a particular focus on Investment Funds. The successful candidate will be based in the Firm’s Bermuda office, joining a team of leading practitioners.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

  • Provide technically sound advice and highly responsive service to clients. The work focuses almost exclusively on investment funds matters.
  • Advise funds and their boards on corporate governance matters.
  • Provide advice on a wide range of investment funds matters, including hedge, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, energy, credit, debt, venture capital, cryptocurrency, tokenised and blockchain structures.
  • Assist on private equity investments into insurance structures, including M&A, P&C and long term insurance deals, as well as sidecars, collateralised insurance and asset intensive reinsurance.
  • Assist in creating thought leadership relating to the funds industry.
  • Assist in developing and expanding client relationships important to the Firm’s success, while at the same time becoming a valued resource to clients.
  • Support colleagues and partners on matters important to the Firm.
  • Leverage the global network to build the Firm’s resources.
  • Maintain a sustained record of revenue generation and profitability; follow recommended billing rates; manage costs appropriately; and ensure personal utilisation meets expectations.
  • Adhere to the Firm’s values and professional ethics and proactively seek resolution of conflicts.
  • Participate in the development of the practice’s know how and share knowledge.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bermuda qualified and/or Commonwealth qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 years’ post qualifying experience at a reputable firm.
  • Sound technical knowledge of corporate and commercial law and practice.
  • Understanding of, and experience working with, a wide range of investment funds, including, but not limited to, hedge, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, energy, credit, debt, venture capital, and willingness to work with cryptocurrency, tokenised and blockchain.
  • Experience of managing fund structuring issues and queries.
  • Excellent academics with top level experience obtained in Bermuda or internationally.
  • Motivated and commercially driven.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid legal skills with a demonstrated understanding of the funds market and client industries.
  • Outstanding time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment; a team player willing to support others.
  • Ability to use legal precedents effectively and to use time recording and billing systems.
  • Ability to support efforts to attract new clients and develop new initiatives.
  • Confidence in delivering presentations and speaking in front of audiences.
