Overview of role

The Finance Assistant is to be responsible for supporting the Accounting and Finance team of Walkers Middle East LLP and will report directly to the Senior Finance Manager with oversight to the Finance Controller.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

1. General Duties

1.1 Accounts Payable

(a) Recording and collating all expenses incurred on the various corporate credit cards

(b) Process personal expense claims in a timely manner

(c) Preparing AP sample bills requested during annual audits

1.2 Accounts Receivable & Credit Control

(a) Provide cover for recording cash receipts on a day-to-day basis, ensuring they are accurately entered into ADEX and communicated to internal stakeholders in the absence of the Revenue Controller or Finance Manager

(b) Provide assistance, when required, in performing credit control functions. This includes contacting clients via telephone, email, and letters of demand. All correspondence related to these activities should be saved in the central storage platform (iManage) and in the respective collection application, to provide fee earners and management with an overview of AR collections per file

(c) Preparing AR sample bills requested during annual audits

1.3 Billing

(a) Assist Revenue Controller in processing client bills and prepare credit notes

(b) Assist in processing employee personal disbursements

(c) Possess knowledge of UAE VAT regulations and a sound understanding of the applicable VAT rates based on different scenarios.

1.4 General

(a) Assist with new supplier registration and liaise with the internal compliance team to complete the required fields for registration

(b) Exposure to local VAT/CIT queries and maintaining a database of such queries and responses

(c) Maintain and reconcile petty cash monthly

(d) Prepare fund transfers between accounts and to external parties through the bank, for further approval. To maintain accurate audit trails in line with the Firm's policies

(e) Piloting and testing new accounting applications and software

Education, Skills & Experience

University Degree or equivalent

Excellent Communication Skills

Proactive Approach

Ability to work independently and within a team environment

Ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment

Experience within a law firm or professional service industry (preferable)

Microsoft Word

Advanced Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Outlook

ADEX and other accounting systems (preferable)
