Overview of role

Walkers Professional Services (WPS), a leading offshore law firm, seeks a Director of Reporting Services to lead our Cayman Islands-based team. Reporting to the Managing Director, Americas, you will be a key member of the WPS Senior Management Team, driving the strategic vision and operational success of our Reporting Services business across the Cayman Islands, BVI, Bermuda, and Dubai. This includes overseeing budget management, KPIs, and ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory reporting obligations, such as Annual Return, Beneficial Ownership, Economic Substance, AEOI (CRS and FATCA), and Fund Annual Return filings. You will collaborate closely with the Walkers law firm's Regulatory and Risk Advisory Team (RRA) on new product implementation, business development, and relationship management with asset managers and other industry stakeholders. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the broader WPS objectives outlined in our Five-Year Business Plan.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

  • Lead teams of regulatory Reporting Services professionals across multiple jurisdictions (Cayman, Bermuda, BVI, and Dubai), encompassing operations, performance management, reporting, risk and compliance, training, and development.
  • Foster a high-performance, client-focused culture within the team and serve as the senior escalation point for all client-related matters.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for regulatory reporting filings for a portfolio of reportable entities, including Annual Return, Beneficial Ownership, Economic Substance, AEOI, and Fund Annual Return filings in the Cayman Islands and other WPS jurisdictions. Ensure the ongoing review and application of appropriate systems and procedures for daily management.
  • Collaborate with other WPS departments and the RRA Team to ensure the ongoing application and review of appropriate systems and processes for compliance with regulatory reporting obligations, including Economic Substance, Beneficial Ownership, AEOI, and Fund Annual Returns (and other similar requirements) in the Cayman Islands and other WPS jurisdictions.
  • Drive business development, service line profile building, marketing, client relationship building and management, and attendance at industry conferences.
  • Manage and assist with ad hoc projects and initiatives, including service line and jurisdictional reviews, regulatory inspections, reconciliation exercises, oversight, and coverage.
  • Provide a clear career framework and progression opportunities for all team members, aligning individual goals with broader WPS initiatives.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Hold a professional qualification in Law or Accountancy with a relevant degree in Finance, Commerce, or Business, and have a minimum of seven (7) years' experience operating at a senior level in regulatory compliance, and no less than fifteen (15) years' experience working in a corporate, fiduciary services, accounting, or law firm.
  • A track record of achieving results in a fast-paced environment, leading multiple teams in a similar Director or Head-level role.
  • Demonstrated ability to map out and implement processes involving large amounts of data, including collation, organization, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Expert knowledge of Cayman Islands laws and regulations, and familiarity with the laws and regulations of Bermuda, BVI, and Dubai.
  • Deep understanding of typical structures and transactions involving Cayman Islands investment funds, SPVs, and other offshore investment vehicles, SPVs, and structured products, and familiarity with and recognition by key transaction parties and industry participants.
  • Strong administrative and team management skills.
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory reporting obligations, including Economic Substance, Beneficial Ownership, AEOI, and Fund Annual Return filings in the Cayman Islands and other WPS jurisdictions, including practical compliance aspects and experience developing appropriate systems and processes.
  • Demonstrable experience and competence in investigating regulatory filing obligations affecting SPVs/Sponsors and developing business lines and internal processes to support them in meeting such obligations.
