Overview of role

Walkers invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the Paralegal position for our Private Capital & Trusts practice group.

 

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

As a Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting our legal team, with responsibilities including:

 

  • To prepare first drafts of private trust/unit trust legal documents and proactively identify and discuss any pertinent issues arising.
  • To prepare revised and final drafts of private trust/unit trust legal documents, accepting or rejecting comments from other parties as appropriate or as directed.
  • To execute all necessary filings with the Registrar of Trusts and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority - including filings through the REEFS portal.
  • To assist as requested with the preparation, stamping and filing of legal documents in connection with probate applications, including court filings.
  • Coordinate cheque requests from the Firm's accounts department for client matters.
  • Support lawyers in preparing retainer invoices and managing monthly billing processes.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records and correspondence files for client matters.
  • Liaise with clients as appropriate, following provided instructions and maintaining professional communication.
  • Manage and monitor "to-do" lists for high volume clients ensuring timely communication and task completion.
  • To participate in special projects related to the Firms and lawyer's practice areas.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with roles purpose, including occasional work outside normal working hours when necessary.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Recognised paralegal qualification/law degree with a minimum 5 years’ paralegal experience in a relevant area within a medium to large law firm is required.
  • Exposure to Trust or corporate legal matters would be preferable.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of professional client interaction.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic, and professional approach to all tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
