Overview of role

We seek suitably qualified Partners with a minimum of 10 years post qualification experience, preferably Caymanians or Residents with Employment Rights holders, who are talented and highly motivated to join our dynamic Insurance team, in the Cayman Islands. Salary Range US$300,000 - US$400,000

 

  • Proactively leads in the strategic expansion and growth of the global insurance practice, leading the Firm's Cayman Insurance practice while informing the growth strategy across all of Walkers' offices. This will involve becoming engaged in, and leading the implementation of, cross-border initiatives aimed at ensuring the Firm maximises its global business opportunities. 
  • Maintains the maximum level of involvement with management, mentoring, training and supervision of attorneys and legal support teams that deliver the highest quality legal services.
  • Enhances relationships by using the most innovative ways to find new business and expand the Firm's relationship with strategic clients at the same time becoming a trusted advisor to clients on the most challenging matters.
  • Drive and sustain record of year-on-year revenue and profit growth through business development, relationship management and impeccable practice management. 
  • Upholds the Firm's policies in relation to pricing, cost management and WIP & AR management while maintaining exceptional client service.
  • Mentor, assist and support colleagues on appropriate matters without regard to personal gain or credit. Proven ability to foster a collaborative environment, a team leader and role model who empowers others to deliver their best work.
  • Be a true steward of the Firm, dedicated to attracting and developing talent.
  • Be a global thought leader and champion for the practice both within the Firm and within the financial services sector, with respect to knowledge building and knowledge management.
  • Initiate effective improvements to the Firm's know-how processes that benefit the practice, participating in working groups and driving positive change.
  • Identify and participate in key practice-related conferences and seminars as appropriate.
  • Responsible for safeguarding and developing Firm’s reputation by being viewed as a leading representative of the Firm; embody the Firm values and reinforce them with colleagues.
  • Participate in Firmwide, regional and/or local committees and to the Firm’s pro bono practice as appropriate.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified in the Cayman Islands or in another Commonwealth jurisdiction with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience within a top-tier international or leading offshore law firm.
  • Excellent academics, a minimum of an Upper Second-Class (2.1) Honours law degree from a Tier 1 University is preferred.
  • Recognized in the profession as a thought-leader and subject expert, with a track record of being the go-to person on the team for knowledge of the practice group.
  • Demonstrable examples, in past work experience, which proves excellent understanding of relevant market and client industries.
  • Proven track record for driving a Firm’s profitability through sustained record of revenue generation, cost management, matter and lawyer profitability and pricing, billing and collectives' management, including sound financial management.
  • Proven judgment, application and interpretation of the law with the ability to effectively communicate legal advice, thoughts and ideas.
  • Track record for strategic, considered and successful business development and ability to cross-sell and deepen client relationships with the Firm.
  • Demonstrable personal commitment to successful recruiting, mentoring, developing and supporting others to increase the overall success of the Firm.
  • Proven experience with internal knowledge development, contributions to knowledge management and external thought leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, good communication, tolerance, respect and is a well-regarded and trustworthy individual, both internally and amongst clients.
  • Experience managing risk with a flawless record of compliance with risk management procedures.
  • Top ranking in the Legal Directories preferred.
