Overview of role
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Conflicts Advisor to join our Office of General Counsel team. The role will sit within our global Conflicts team and will provide conflicts support globally with conflicts analysis, escalations and reporting. The role is focused on conflicts of interest.
The role will require knowledge of applicable professional conflicts rules and a good understanding of the client base and nature of work and transactions undertaken by Walkers. Although based in Cayman, the role will be global and may be required to support other offices as required. Full training will be provided but the successful applicant will be expected to supplement this with independent reading and remain up-to-date with relevant activity in the market.
Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
- Provide support to the business as the first point of escalation in the conflict checking proces.
- Review and analyse conflict reports, determining any actual or potential, legal or commercial conflicts of interest.
- Provide valuable and reliable conflict advice and support to the partners and fee earners.
- Lead on building and maintaining a good working relationship between the conflicts team and the business, particularly for the Americas region
- Assist with the preparation of training materials and lead on the delivery of training for team members and legal teams.
- Act as a mentor to more junior team members, including in their induction and ongoing training and development.
- Assist with drafting, updating and maintaining conflicts-related documentation, including manuals, policies, procedures and templates, as well as other internal communications.
- Draft recommendation reports for the Conflicts Committee with details of the conflict or potential conflict, and a recommended course of action.
- Assist with the drafting of conflicts and confidentiality waivers.
- Assist with local, regional and global conflicts projects as required
- Carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose of the role, including the performance of duties outside working hours when required and work in a flexible manner.
Education, Skills & Experience
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate with a minimum of 4 years' experience in an international risk and compliance function role with a focus on conflicts of interest.
- Practical knowledge and experience of preventing, identifying and managing conflicts of interest.
- Knowledge of professional conflict rules
- Experience using Intapp or a similar onboarding tool is preferred.
