Overview of role

We seek a suitably qualified Senior Counsels with a minimum of 8 years post qualification experience, preferably Caymanians or Residents with Employment Rights holders, who are talented and highly motivated to join our dynamic Finance and Corporate team, in the Cayman Islands. Finance and Corporate

 

Salary Range US$250,000 - US$300,000

 

  • Proactively assist in the expansion and growth of the Cayman office's Finance practice, working alongside the Firm's Finance (and corporate where applicable) practices across all of Walkers' offices. This will involve becoming engaged in, and (in time) leading the implementation of, cross-border initiatives aimed at ensuring the Firm leverages its business across the global business. 
  • Proactively lead the team in developing and expanding client relationships important to the Firm’s success and at the same time becoming a valued resource to clients. This will involve taking ownership of the development of relationships with core clients, referral of work and cross selling the Finance practice across the Firm. 
  • Participate in the development of the practice’s know-how, sharing of knowledge and actively participate in conferences, seminars and internal training.
  • Provide technically sound advice and highly responsive service to clients, and support colleagues, and partners on all client matters.
  • Participate as a senior team member in the Finance and Corporate team, working alongside the Partners as a key figure within the team by supervising and supporting junior Fee Earners
  • Maintain a strong and sustained record of revenue generation and profitability; manage costs appropriately; ensure personal utilization meets expectations.
  • Mentoring and supervising of attorneys.
  • Adhere to Firm's values and professional ethics and proactively seek resolution of conflicts.
  • Lead in the development of the practice’s know-how, share knowledge, and participate in conferences, seminars and internal training.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified in the Cayman Islands or another Commonwealth jurisdiction with a minimum of 8 years’ post-qualification experience within a medium to large finance and/or corporate law firm.
  • Excellent academics, with a minimum of an Upper Second-Class (2.1) Honours law degree from a Tier 1 university preferred.
  • Ambitious and commercially driven lawyer with a keen intellect and experience gained within an established law firm.
  • Excellent legal skills with a strong understanding of relevant markets, client industries, and technical knowledge of financing and corporate law, including security documentation.
  • Excellent technical drafting skills, with the ability to deliver innovative and practical legal solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Highly proficient in written and verbal communication, with the ability to demonstrate thorough and careful analysis of legal issues.
  • Demonstrates a clear interest in and enthusiasm for practising law, with an ability to contribute to business development initiatives, including developing a focused market sector.
  • Works effectively both independently and collaboratively, leading on client matters and providing commercially sound advice.
  • Proven ability to meet financial targets, taking personal responsibility for billings and consistently working towards utilisation expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor financial performance against agreed targets and proactively address any shortfall in billable hours.
  • Good financial management, including oversight of WIP and AR levels in line with firm guidelines.
  • Able to achieve and exceed pre-agreed annual billing and collection targets.
  • Adheres to firm matter administration procedures, including accurate and timely time recording.
  • Proactively contributes to the growth of the Cayman Islands finance and corporate practice and the wider global group.
  • Builds and maintains strong client and referrer relationships.
  • Actively participates in business development initiatives, including cross-selling and winning new clients.
  • Takes ownership of matters from inception through to billing, ensuring timely invoicing and complete daily time recording.
  • Drives matters to conclusion without prompting, maintaining high standards of client service and delivery.
  • Shares knowledge and supports the ongoing development of the practice group.
  • Trusted and well-regarded by colleagues and clients.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, acts as a role model, and mentors junior attorneys.
  • Supports delivery of the practice group’s strategic goals.
  • Maintains a strong track record of compliance with risk management procedures.
