Overview of role

We seek suitably qualified Senior Counsels with a minimum of 8 years post qualification experience, preferably Caymanians or Residents with Employment Rights holders, who are talented and highly motivated to join our dynamic Insolvency and Dispute Resolution team, in the Cayman Islands. Insolvency and Dispute Resolution

 

Salary Range US$250,000 – US$300,000

 

  • Proactively assist in the expansion and sustained growth of the Cayman office's Insolvency and Dispute Resolution practice, working closely alongside the Firm's Insolvency and Dispute Resolution teams across all Walkers' offices. This will involve becoming actively engaged in, and over time taking a leadership role in, developing and implementing cross-border initiatives that ensure the Firm effectively leverages its global platform and maximizes business opportunities across jurisdictions.
  • Act as a senior team member in complex contentious financial services matters, including insolvencies, trusts, funds, and corporate disputes with significant multi-jurisdictional dimensions. Provide high-quality legal support and strategic insight across a broad range of dispute resolution and restructuring scenarios.
  • Advise a diverse and sophisticated client base, including insolvency practitioners, banks and financial institutions, large corporations, creditors, directors, shareholders, and partners, on both contentious and non-contentious corporate recovery and insolvency matters, as well as company and partnership disputes.
  • Provide technically robust and commercially sound advice to trust companies, trustees, beneficiaries, enforcers, and protectors in relation to high-value and complex trust disputes, often involving cross-border elements and requiring careful strategic consideration.
  • Take a proactive leadership role in developing, managing, and expanding key client relationships that are critical to the Firm’s long-term success, while becoming a trusted and valued advisor. This includes taking ownership of relationships with core clients, generating referrals, and actively cross-selling the Insolvency and Dispute Resolution practice across the Firm’s global network.
  • Contribute to and lead the development of the practice group’s knowledge base by sharing expertise, producing thought leadership, and actively participating in conferences, seminars, and internal training initiatives.
  • Deliver technically sound, commercially practical legal advice and a highly responsive service to clients, while supporting colleagues and Partners on all client matters to ensure consistency and quality in service delivery.
  • Serve as a key senior member within the Insolvency and Dispute Resolution team, working closely with Partners to supervise, mentor, and support junior fee earners, ensuring professional development and high standards of performance.
  • Maintain a strong and sustained record of revenue generation and profitability by adhering to recommended billing rates, managing costs effectively, and ensuring that personal utilization targets are consistently achieved or exceeded.
  • Mentor and supervise attorneys, demonstrating strong collaborative skills and acting as a role model within the team, fostering an environment that enables colleagues to perform at their highest level.
  • Adhere strictly to the Firm’s values and professional ethics, proactively identifying and resolving any conflicts in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Take a leadership role in developing the practice’s expertise and internal know-how, actively contributing to training programs, industry events, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance both internal capability and external reputation.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified in the Cayman Islands or another Commonwealth jurisdiction, with at least 8 years’ post-qualification experience at a top-tier international or leading offshore law firm.
  • Strong academic credentials preferred, including a minimum Upper Second-Class (2.1) Honours law degree from a Tier 1 university.
  • Ambitious, commercially driven lawyer with strong intellectual ability and proven experience in an established law firm environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent legal capability, including a sound understanding of relevant markets, client industries, and insolvency and dispute resolution matters, particularly financial services disputes, trusts, funds, and complex cross-border corporate issues.
  • Strong drafting skills with the ability to deliver innovative, tailored legal solutions across diverse client needs.
  • Highly effective communicator, providing clear, thorough, and well-reasoned legal advice.
  • Shows enthusiasm for legal practice and the ability to develop key market sectors alongside a Partner as part of a business development strategy.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex matters, working independently while collaborating to deliver commercially focused advice.
  • Demonstrates strong financial discipline, monitoring performance against targets, managing monthly billing, maintaining high utilisation, and proactively addressing shortfalls.
  • Maintains effective financial management, ensuring WIP and accounts receivable remain within Firm guidelines.
  • Consistently delivers accurate, timely work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
  • Experienced in legal precedents and firm systems, including timekeeping and billing tools, meeting or exceeding billing and collection targets.
  • Adheres strictly to matter management procedures, including accurate and timely time recording.
  • Contributes to the growth of the Cayman Islands Insolvency and Dispute Resolution practice and the wider global group.
  • Demonstrates strong business development and marketing experience within a top-tier international or offshore firm.
  • Builds and maintains trusted relationships with clients, referrers, and stakeholders.
  • Effectively cross-sells services and supports initiatives to win new clients.
  • Takes full ownership of billing processes, ensuring timely invoicing and proactive matter management through to completion.
  • Actively shares knowledge, strengthening the expertise and reputation of the practice group.
  • Recognised as a trusted and respected professional by clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, professionalism, integrity, and clear communication, acting as a role model.
  • Supports and advances practice group strategy while maintaining strong financial and operational performance.
  • Maintains rigorous risk management, ensuring compliance with Firm policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to the Firm’s knowledge base through materials, precedents, templates, and training.
  • Works toward enhancing legal directory rankings and becoming a recognised subject matter expert within the Insolvency and Dispute Resolution practice.
