Overview of role
We seek a suitably qualified Senior Counsels with a minimum of 8 years post qualification experience, preferably Caymanians or Residents with Employment Rights holders, who are talented and highly motivated to join our dynamic Investment Funds team, in the Cayman Islands. Salary Range US$250,000 – US$300,000
- Proactively assist in the expansion and sustained growth of the Cayman office's Investment Funds practice, working closely alongside the Firm's Investment Funds teams across all Walkers' offices. This will include becoming actively engaged in, and over time taking a leadership role in, the development and implementation of cross-border initiatives designed to ensure the Firm effectively leverages its global platform and maximizes business opportunities across jurisdictions.
- Act as a senior team member in handling complex investment funds matters, including hedge funds, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, energy, credit, debt, venture capital, cryptocurrency, and blockchain-related work. In addition, provide support on corporate transactions such as joint ventures, acquisitions, series financings, and corporate reorganisations, ensuring high-quality delivery and commercial insight.
- Take a proactive leadership role in developing, maintaining, and expanding key client relationships that are critical to the Firm’s success, while also becoming a trusted and valued advisor to clients. This includes ownership of relationships with core clients, generating referrals, and actively cross-selling the Investment Funds practice across the Firm’s various offices and practice areas.
- Contribute to and lead the development of the practice group’s know-how by sharing expertise, producing thought leadership, and actively participating in conferences, seminars, and internal training sessions to strengthen the Firm’s intellectual capital and market reputation.
- Deliver technically sound, commercially focused legal advice and a highly responsive service to clients, while supporting colleagues and Partners on all client matters to ensure consistent excellence in service delivery.
- Serve as a key senior figure within the Investment Funds team, working closely with Partners to supervise, mentor, and support junior fee earners, ensuring quality control, professional development, and effective team collaboration.
- Maintain a strong and sustained record of revenue generation and profitability by adhering to recommended billing rates, managing costs effectively, and ensuring that personal utilization targets are consistently achieved or exceeded.
- Mentor and supervise attorneys, demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Act as a role model by empowering others to perform at their highest potential and encouraging a culture of excellence.
- Adhere strictly to the Firm’s values and professional ethics, proactively identifying and resolving conflicts in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Take a leadership role in developing the practice’s expertise and knowledge base, while actively contributing to training initiatives, conferences, and seminars that enhance both internal capability and external profile.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Qualified in the Cayman Islands or another Commonwealth jurisdiction, with at least 8 years’ post-qualification experience at a top-tier international or leading offshore law firm.
- Strong academic background preferred, including a minimum Upper Second-Class (2.1) Honours law degree from a Tier 1 university.
- An ambitious, commercially driven lawyer with strong intellectual ability and proven experience in an established law firm environment.
- Demonstrates strong legal expertise, including a sound understanding of relevant markets, client industries, and investment funds across hedge, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, energy, credit, debt, venture capital, cryptocurrency, and blockchain, as well as corporate transactions such as joint ventures, acquisitions, financings, and reorganisations.
- Excellent drafting skills, delivering innovative, client-focused solutions for complex matters.
- Highly effective communicator, providing clear, concise, and well-reasoned legal analysis.
- Shows enthusiasm for legal practice and the ability to develop key market sectors with a Partner as part of a business development plan.
- Proven ability to lead complex transactions, working independently and collaboratively to deliver commercially sound advice.
- Demonstrates financial accountability by monitoring targets, managing monthly billing, maintaining strong utilisation, and addressing shortfalls.
- Maintains financial discipline, ensuring WIP and receivables remain within Firm guidelines.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment, consistently delivering accurate and timely work.
- Experienced with legal precedents and firm systems, including timekeeping and billing tools, meeting or exceeding billing and collection targets.
- Adheres to matter management procedures, including accurate time recording.
- Contributes to the growth of the Cayman Islands Investment Funds practice and wider global group.
- Demonstrates business development and marketing experience within a top-tier international or offshore firm.
