Overview of role
Walkers Professional Services ("WPS") invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the role of Senior Legal Advisor. The Senior Legal Advisor will act as an in-house counsel and second in command to the Director of Legal, working closely with the WPS Director of Operational Risk and other members of the WPS Senior Management Team ("SMT") to drive and implement ongoing strategies and initiatives geared towards the mitigation of risk throughout the business globally. The role represents a unique opportunity to work offshore in an in-house environment at a leading international corporate services provider that services global corporations, financial institutions, capital markets participants and investment fund managers.
Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
- Designing and implementing global risk mitigation projects, including drafting and updating policies, procedures and processes, and legal opinions.
- Identifying opportunities for setting and enhancing global governance standards.
- Working closely with all Heads of Service Lines, Director of Operational Risk, and the SMT to ensure that risk is consistently addressed in global projects, processes and initiatives, and maintaining alignment with the risk and compliance framework and legal and regulatory obligations in the Cayman Islands and other jurisdictions in which WPS operates.
- Assisting with reviewing, drafting, updating and maintaining all corporate governance related documentation, including charters, terms of reference, manuals, policies, procedures and templates, as well as bulletins and other internal communications, whether standalone or contributing to others' deliverables.
- Assisting with the management and preparation of all legal and regulatory proceedings relating to WPS globally, including the engagement of and working alongside external legal counsel where required.
- Assisting with the RFP, risk assessment, engagement and on-boarding of and collaboration with WPS' various outsource providers and other third party vendors.
- Providing clear, commercial and succinct recommendations to the Director of Legal, CEO, CFO, SMT and various Boards of Directors throughout WPS' global network.
- Other tasks as required from the business from time to time. Occasionally travel may be required.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Qualification as an attorney with a minimum of 6 years PQE.
- Significant in-house experience, preferably within financial services, corporate services or fiduciary services.
- Proven experience working both independently, as well as in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
- Proven experience of risk management, remediation and governance.
- Proven experience of reviewing, negotiating and drafting contracts for fiduciary, corporate services and AML services.
- Strong analytic, research, attention to detail, written and oral communication skills.
- Commercial mindset with proven experience working alongside senior management to influence strategic decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously whilst collaborating effectively with senior stakeholders as a trusted advisor.
Compensation Data
