Overview of role
Reporting to the Head of Digital Delivery, the IT Division within Walkers is seeking to appoint a Senior Quality Assurance Lead to provide strategic leadership and oversight of quality assurance across the firm’s digital delivery portfolio. This role will be instrumental in embedding robust, consistent, and scalable QA practices within a complex, regulated, and security conscious professional services environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving quality maturity across the agile delivery landscape, aligning testing practices to TMMI standards, and supporting the firm’s progression towards DevOps and “shift left” methodologies. Acting as a senior subject matter expert, the Senior Quality Assurance Lead will partner closely with product owners, delivery leads, architects, and third party vendors to ensure that quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle and that solutions meet both business and regulatory expectations.
Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for Quality Assurance across the agile delivery function.
- Act as the QA subject matter expert for delivery squads, advising on best practice testing approaches across Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
- Define, implement, and continuously improve QA standards, frameworks, processes, and acceptance criteria in line with organisational maturity and TMMI standards.
- Lead the transition towards DevOps and shift left testing practices, promoting automation and early quality engagement.
- Manage testing activities across the full software development and DevOps lifecycle, including functional, regression, integration, performance, load, and security testing.
- Select, implement, and govern QA tooling, including vendor evaluation and ongoing supplier relationship management where applicable.
- Lead, coach, and develop QA team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Govern and maintain test environments, ensuring they are appropriately configured, utilised, and understood by delivery and support teams.
- Conduct QA audits and reviews to identify gaps, risks, and deviations from agreed standards, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Identify and assess quality and delivery risks associated with software releases, providing clear recommendations and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant QA or testing certifications (e.g. ISTQB, TMMI, Agile/DevOps certifications) are highly desirable.
- A minimum of seven years’ quality assurance experience, including at least two years in a senior or lead QA role within a complex enterprise or professional services environment.
- Proven track record of leading QA functions within Agile delivery models, with exposure to Waterfall and hybrid methodologies.
- Demonstrable experience implementing and maturing QA frameworks, standards, and governance models.
- Experience supporting DevOps initiatives, including test automation and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Hands on experience managing QA tooling and working with third party vendors or managed service providers
