Overview of role
Reporting directly to the Head of Treasury, the Team Leader, Treasury Operations is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Treasury Operations team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, robust controls over client and general bank accounts, and the effective administration of treasury-related activities across the firm.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on operational oversight while also managing team performance, allocating workloads, and ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice. The role requires close collaboration with the Trust Company, the Law Firm, and senior finance leadership, as well as the ability to support key initiatives, reporting requirements, and ad hoc projects as required.
Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
- Process cheques and wire transfer requests across all bank accounts, including posting disbursements to client matters
- Reconcile Government Agencies escrow accounts and post transactions to client matters
- Perform and complete monthly reconciliations of Walkers Trust and General Bank Accounts
- Arrange timely cheque deposits with the bank
- Reconcile receipts credited to all bank accounts on a daily basis, allocating funds to invoices or client trust accounts as required
- Liaise with the Trust Company and Law Firm to investigate unidentified funds received
- Arrange for duplicate payments and unidentified funds to be returned to the remitter
- Maintain and reconcile the suspense account ledger in liaison with the Head of Treasury Operations (HOTO)
- Review team output for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls and procedures
- Provide training, coaching, and ongoing performance feedback to team members
- Allocate tasks and manage workloads effectively to meet operational deadlines
- Provide administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer and finance leadership team, including calendar management, meetings, and travel arrangements
- Coordinate cross-functional finance department initiatives
- Prepare briefing documents, reports, and meeting minutes
- Track, support, or lead key special projects and ad hoc initiatives as required
Education, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or equivalent relevant work experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience in an accounting, treasury, or finance environment, including a supervisory role
- Experience in general ledger (GL) accounting
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite, with advanced Excel and database skills preferred
- Strong organisational, critical thinking, and customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, manage competing deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment
- Knowledge of Aderant would be an asset
- Ability and willingness to occasionally work outside normal working hours when required
