Overview of role

The Senior Associate will be an integral part of our rapidly expanding finance team and will advise on a wide range of debt finance matters, ranging from secured lending through to fund finance, ship & maritime finance, leveraged and acquisition finance, secured and unsecured note issuances and collateralised loan obligations. The successful candidate will be expected to support finance transactions with minimal supervision, supervise and mentor junior colleagues and participate in business development initiatives.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

  • Provide technically sound advice and highly responsive service to clients
  • Assist in developing and expanding client relationships important to the Firm’s success and, at the same time, become a valued resource to clients
  • Support colleagues and partners on matters important to the Firm
  • Maintain a sustained record of revenue generation and profitability; follow recommended billing rates; manage costs appropriately; ensure personal utilization meets expectations
  • Responsible for the day-to-day conduct of files and being the principal point of contact for clients
  • Support colleagues and partners on matters important to the Firm
  • Use of the global network to build the Firm resources
  • Adhere to Firm values and professional ethics and proactively seek resolution of conflicts
  • Participate in the development of the practice’s know-how and share knowledge
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose of the job.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Bermuda and/or qualified commonwealth lawyer with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualifying experience in a debt finance team at a reputable law firm and/or in-house.
  • Excellent academics with top level experience obtained in Bermuda or internationally
  • Motivated and commercially driven with proven experience of acting on large/complex cross-border financing deals and/or securitisation transactions
  • Prior experience of supervising/mentoring junior lawyers or trainees and handling the day-to-day aspects of finance and debt capital markets transactions.
  • Solid legal skills with understanding of relevant markets and client industries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding time management and organisational skills
  • The ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment - a team player, willing to support others
  • The ability to use legal precedents effectively and timekeeping and billing systems
  • The ability to support efforts to attract new clients and develop new business initiatives
