Overview of role

We are seeking a dynamic HR Specialist with a Learning and Development focus to join our Human Resources team. This role operational, supporting a wide range of HR functions including learning and development, performance management, and HR project delivery. There will be a real focus on developing early career pathways for lawyers. The HR Specialist will act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, aligning HR initiatives with the firm’s goals and values.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

Learning & Development

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver induction programmes for new joiners, including cultural onboarding.
  • Organise and manage internal and external training events, including technical, legal, and critical skills development.
  • Support employees undertaking professional qualifications (e.g. STEP, ACCA, SQE, law courses) through administrative coordination and mentoring where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify training needs and implement tailored development plans.
  • Oversee the delivery of firm-wide learning initiatives such as the Walkers Business Summer School (WBSS).
  • Manage local talent development programmes, including bursary schemes, internships, and graduate training pathways.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously improve learning offerings in line with business goals.

 

Performance & Talent Management

  • Support the annual performance review process and talent development initiatives.
  • Assist in succession planning and career development frameworks.
  • Promote a culture of continuous feedback and high performance.

 

HR Policy & Compliance

  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are up to date, compliant, and effectively communicated.
  • Provide guidance on policy interpretation and application.
  • Support audits and regulatory compliance as required.

 

HR Projects & Strategy

  • Lead or contribute to global and local HR projects aligned with the firm’s strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement change initiatives and improve employee experience.
  • Monitor HR metrics and provide insights to inform decision-making.

 

Systems & Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity in the HRIS.

 

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Degree-level education; CIPD qualification preferred.
  • Solid HR experience in a professional services or corporate environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and organisational development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
  • Demonstrates integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.
