Overview of role
Office: London (hybrid)
This is an opportunity to join the firm's Risk and Compliance team for the law firm, reporting into the Senior Business Acceptance Manager. This is a newly created role, supporting the Senior Business Acceptance Manager, with the new business intake and new client on-boarding processes within the team's region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating a team of analysts and promoting quality assurance with periodic reviews and driving productivity across the team of analysts in the region. The candidate will work closely with the Senior Business Acceptance Manager in dealing with allocations of requests and queries in the team, managing the team inbox and supporting junior members of the team
The role will require knowledge of the applicable AML/CTF regimes. Full training will be provided but the successful applicant will be expected to supplement this with independent reading of the regulations and remain up to date on regulatory changes/ horizon scanning. They will need to ensure that the team of analysts likewise remain up to date with any legislative or regulatory changes in their region.
Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
- Taking a lead, with their team of analysts, (a) analysing new clients and matters to assess AML/ CTF risks and to determine applicable client due diligence (CDD) requirements; (b) collecting and reviewing relevant CDD materials; and (c) approving (where appropriate) new client/ matters which have satisfied applicable requirements, or otherwise escalating cases to the Senior Business Acceptance Manager and/or Compliance Manager as necessary;
- Manage the daily allocations of new business intake requests, prioritising groups according to business needs, and assisting the Senior Business Acceptance Manager and/or Compliance Manager with management of the team;
- Mentoring and training compliance analysts in the team and being available for day to day queries and support;
- Provide practical and prompt advice and assistance to fee-earners and other professional staff in relation to applicable AML/CTF (including CDD) obligations;
- Conduct sanctions screening for the Regulatory department;
- Conduct and review risk assessments to ensure that the appropriate risk rating is assigned to the clients and matters and that proper escalation to senior management is triggered in high risk scenarios;
- Work closely with the wider Risk and Compliance team to ensure that the firm's AML/CTF obligations are met;
- Assist with updating and maintaining compliance-related documentation, including AML manuals, policies, procedures and templates, as well as compliance bulletins and other internal communications;
- Assist with preparations for regulatory inspections and submissions;
- Assist the Senior Business Acceptance Manager and/or Compliance Manager with local, regional and global compliance projects as required.
- Being a trusted advisor to the partners and promote compliance best practice at any given opportunity, and being a point person in the region for ad hoc queries.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Graduate with at least three years' experience in an international risk and compliance function, with a focus on conflicts, AML and other financial crime; preferably in a law firm environment.
