Overview of role

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking for a career in legal risk. The role would involve supporting on and helping to drive key risk initiatives and projects impacting Walkers Group.

 

We are seeking a driven individual who is looking to specialise in a career in law firm risk. The individual must have previous experience in a law firm risk and compliance team, with a focus on risk ( with experience in some or all of enterprise risk, business continuity, data governance related projects and regulatory risk). The risk advisor would report into the Senior Risk Manager and work closely with them and the Head of Risk and Compliance on all Group risk projects and initiatives. 

 

The successful candidate would need to be a proactive team player with excellent inter-personal skills and have the ability to build and foster collaborative working relationships both within the team and across the wider Group. The successful candidate must be driven and proactive in advocating and embedding best practice and promote that culture across the Group globally.

 

The role will involve supporting and working on the Group's risk management processes, including involvement and participation in various projects and areas including but not limited to: data governance initiatives, business continuity planning, risk register development and reporting, breaches registers, policy and procedure review and maintenance and training.

 

The candidate will be required to communicate with key stakeholders in the business, and be required to support the Senior Risk Manager and the Head of Risk and Compliance on any risk issues that arise across the Group. The successful candidate will work with the Senior Risk Manager and other members of the team to promote best practice across the Group.

 

The successful applicant will work closely with the Senior Risk Manager and Head of Risk and Compliance supporting on regulatory requirements and projects.

 

We are looking for candidates based in London, however the successful applicant may occasionally be required to travel to other offices when necessary.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

1. Supporting on risk projects and ensuring the team is resolving incoming queries;

2. Supporting on maintenance of the Groups BCP framework, policies, plans and testing methodologies, reporting to the Senior Risk Manager as required;

3. Working on ongoing testing and development of the BCP framework, liaising with local offices and senior stakeholders across the Group in connection with this and providing regular updates to the Business Continuity Committee;

4. Maintaining and developing the Group's risk registers and breaches registers, liaising with relevant stakeholders across the Group in connection with this;

5. Producing risk reports as required;

6. Liaising with business services colleagues on cross-business services projects which require risk input;

7. Provide practical and prompt advice and assistance to fee-earners and other professional staff in relation to regulatory risk or other risk matters;

8. Work closely with the Head of Risk and Compliance and other senior managers in embedding of risk policies, procedures, training and guidance to support the business;

9. Input into the continued development of a strong risk and compliance culture. This will include interfacing with the businesses to ensure that the implementation of new procedures are understood and followed;

10. Assist with the preparation for regulatory inspections and submissions; and

11. Assist the GC and Head of Risk and Compliance with regional and global risk and compliance projects as required and support and promote a positive and proactive risk management culture across the team and regions.

Education, Skills & Experience

• Graduate with experience in an international risk and compliance function role with a focus on risk, preferably in a law firm environment.

• Experience of business continuity, data governance and/ or enterprise risk management in a law firm environment.

• Practical knowledge and experience of compliance and business acceptance (working knowledge of conflicts of interest, sanctions regimes, PEPs and other high risk categories; understanding of offshore structures, particularly in a funds context).
