Overview of role

Office: London (hybrid 50%)

 

This is an opportunity to join the firm's Regulatory Monitoring team as a Senior Compliance Analyst in London to support Walkers Law Firm and Walkers Professional Services (WPS) across all regions the firm operates. Senior Compliance Analysts provide a key role in the Regulatory Monitoring team through acting in a, mentoring and training role to more junior analysts, acting as a key point of contact between Compliance and the business and deal with the most complex and high risk cases and issues.

 

Our Regulatory Monitoring team is responsible for monitoring and managing the ongoing Compliance risks Walkers face. It is principally focused on anti-money laundering, counter terrorist financing ("CTF") and sanctions compliance for existing entities, including:

• Periodic and trigger based risk assessments of our clients (including enhanced monitoring over our high risk clients);

• Investigation and alert investigation process of our screening processes (covering sanctions, Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) and adverse media screening);

• Supporting WPS in performing KYC reviews and screening we conduct on behalf of our clients;

• Supporting Walkers law firm on the auto file closure process and ensuring effective matter management across the global law firm;

• Supporting with completion of regulatory returns as required for Walkers Group.

 

The role requires knowledge of the AML/CTF regimes across the Firms ten offices and multiple business lines and in particular AML/CTF law and guidance in the Cayman Islands. Full training will be provided but the successful applicant will be expected to supplement this with independent reading of the regulations and remain up to date on regulatory changes. 

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

  • The senior analyst will be responsible for conducting periodic and trigger based risk assessments of our clients which include (a) reviewing the due diligence of existing Walkers entities/clients and where appropriate, re-identifying their ownership and control to assess AML/CTF and sanctions risks and determine applicable Customer Due Diligence ("CDD") requirements, (b) collecting and reviewing relevant CDD materials, (c) determining the risk rating of clients and whether additional due diligence measures are required and (d) re-approving, where appropriate, existing relationships which satisfy applicable requirements, or otherwise escalating cases as necessary;
  • Be a key point of contact to the business in providing practical and prompt advice and assistance to fee-earners and other professional staff in relation to applicable AML/CTF (including CDD) obligations;
  • Conduct screening to identify PEPs, sanctions issues and other regulatory and reputational risks, including;
  • Investigate any suspicious activity that arises through periodic and trigger based risk assessments and escalate to the Financial Crime team or Compliance Senior Management as appropriate;
  • Support WPS in performing KYC reviews and screening we conduct on behalf of our clients;
  • Support Walkers law firm on the auto file closure process and ensuring effective matter management across the global law firm;
  • Support with completion of regulatory returns as required for Walkers Group
  • Provide assistance with on-going monitoring procedures, including testing of reliance on third parties and other risk and compliance audits as necessary;
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure that the firm's AML/CTF obligations are met;
  • Providing support on regional and global compliance projects as required;
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose of the role, including the performance of duties outside normal working hours when required and work in a flexible manner.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Graduate with at experience in an international compliance function with a focus on AML and other financial crime, preferably in a law firm or corporate services provider environment.
