Overview of role

SUMMARY

Walkers is internationally recognised as having one of the premier offshore finance practices.  It has the largest presence in the finance space in Asia of any offshore law firm and is looking to further expand its Finance team in Singapore. The team covers an extremely diverse spectrum of British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and Bermuda law-related finance work and is looking to hire a candidate with a strong general banking background Chinese language skills beneficial but not essential.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

Key Responsibilities

  1. Advise on a broad range of banking and finance matters, including acquisition and leveraged finance, fund finance, structured finance, debt restructurings and general corporate lending 
  2. Draft, review and negotiate complex legal documents including loan agreements, security documents and guarantees
  3. Provide legal opinions on matters of Cayman Islands, BVI and Bermuda law
  4. Liaise with clients, onshore counsel, other service providers and relevant government authorities
  5. Contribute to business development and client relationship initiatives

Education, Skills & Experience

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years PQE in banking and finance in a leading onshore or offshore firm.
  2. Ambitious, hard-working and a good team player.
  3. Admitted in either England and Wales, BVI, Cayman Islands and/or Bermuda.
  4. Strong academic credentials and excellent drafting skills
  5. Demonstrated experience in cross-border finance transactions with solid legal knowledge of financing and security documentation, structures and law, ideally obtained from training and deal experience at a leading Singapore, international or offshore law firm.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  7. Commercially astute with a client-focused mindset
  8. Keen to be involved in business development activities.
  9. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Strong Chinese language skills beneficial
  10. Experience of working in Singapore and/or Hong Kong with a good network of existing contacts would be an advantage.
