Overview of role

The Senior Compliance Officer ("SCO") for Walkers Corporate (BVI) Limited ("WCBL") and Walkers Corporate Authorised Representative Services Limited ("WCARSL") is appointed by the Board of Directors with responsibility for overseeing WBCL's and WCARSL's compliance function. The SCO will also be appointed as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer of WCBL and WCARSL responsible for ensuring compliance with WCBL's and WCARSL's AML/CTF obligations. The SCO will report to the Office Managing Partner and the Managing Director of Corporate Services for BVI.

Whilst strong knowledge of the BVI AML/CTF law and guidance is required, supplemental training will be provided to the SCO upon their appointment and on an annual basis thereafter.

Whilst the SCO maintains overall responsibility of WCBLs and WCARSL compliance function, the role will be supported by the Walkers Group (the "Firm") internal Compliance function.

Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification

The SCO will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with the BVI Financial Services Act, the BVI Regulatory Code and any other guidance issued by the BVI Financial Services Commission (the "Commission");
  • Reporting into the Commission at such frequency specified in the Regulatory Code (including all relevant returns) and to act as liaison between WCBL and the Commission;
  • Submitting bi-annual written reports to the Commission on WCBLs compliance with the Financial Services Act 2001 and other financial services legislation; the Regulatory Code and any other relevant guidance applicable to WCBL and WCARSL and any directives or practice directions issued by the Commission;
  • Reporting regularly into the Office Managing Partner, Senior Management and the Board of Directors, with respect to WCBLs and WCARSLs compliance function and at least annually, submitting a compliance report to Senior Management;
  • Undertaking risk assessments of the AML/CTF controls to identify any deficiencies or gaps and to make relevant recommendations for any updates or revisions to Senior Management;
  • Establishing and maintaining a manual of compliance procedures;
  • Recording and reporting any breaches of compliance;
  • Ensuring all WCBL staff have an understanding of the laws and policies of the BVI;
  • Establishing a training programme for WCBL staff, including the compliance function;
  • Establishing, maintaining and monitoring a complaints procedure for the monitoring and handling of complaints; and
  • Undertaking any other duties that are required commensurate with the role.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Relevant experience working in a compliance-related role;
  • Strong knowledge of the BVI AML/CTF framework.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
